As of press time, only three states regulate online poker – New Jersey, Nevada, and Delaware. But none of those states even rank among the top 10 states in terms of population. The populations of Nevada (2.8 million) and Delaware (925,749) are much smaller by comparison. And it shows in the size of their poker rooms. New Jersey, which opened for real-money play in November 2013, has six poker networks operating in New Jersey. The most successful, so far, is the Borgata/bwin.party network, with a seven- day average of 240 real-money players, according to PokerScout (as of December 30). In Nevada, WSOP.com, which launched in September 2013, has a seven-day average of 100 real-money players, according to PokerScout (as of December 30). And Delaware, which launched on October 31, 2013, is seeing a seven-day-average of 16 real-money players, according to PokerScout (as of Dec. 30). Despite the fact that there are fewer players to compete for in a given market, the number of competitors has not decreased dramatically, if at all, in the major online poker markets.
